The spreadsheet below provides an analysis of Omega-3 supplements with low levels of total oxidation and heavy metals – based on the IFOS batch testing.
To view the spreadsheet full screen, use this link.
All products in this list have been tested by IFOS and have passed all of their tests for acceptable thresholds of oxidation and contaminants.
In terms of guidance on what are acceptable levels of oxidation and contaminants, lower is better for all these parameters, and IFOS suggest the following thresholds:
- Total Oxidation less than 19.5 (personally I’d prefer ~10 or less, but <19.5 is their threshold)
- Mercury, Arsenic & Cadmium at less than 0.1 ppm (parts per million)
- Lead less than 0.05 ppm (parts per million).
- PCB’s (an industrial chemical called polychlorinated biphenyl) less than 45 ppb (parts per billion)
- Dioxins and Furans (more toxic chemicals) at less than 1 ppt (parts per thousand)
- Dioxin-Like PCBS (more toxic chemicals) at less than 1.5 ppt (parts per thousand)
